The best possibility is either months ahead of the date of travel or during the last 1-3 days of departure date, when many bookings are likely to get cancelled. Some airlines also send news letters and post details of discounted tickets in the last few days. This is a good source to make an assessment regarding the Cheapest fare that you can possibly get. Air lines from some of the Third World Countries, those of East European Nations and some Middle Eastern Countries offer excellent fares.
