Tiger Airways Cheap Flights

The newest player on the Australian cheap flights scene, Tiger Airways have announced that they will fly to all states and territories in Australia. They have recently confirmed that they will also offer cheap flights on the Melbourne to Adelaide route.

Tiger Airways will not fly the popular Melbourne to Sydney route initially and several other major centres have been left out of their final plans.

Tiger Airways CEO Tony Davis has said that Tiger will fly from its Tullamarine terminal 4 home base, using five aircraft and will fly 12 routes initially.

Tiger will fly Melbourne to Sunshine Coast, Alice Springs, Hobart, Launceston, Mackay, Adelaide, Perth, Canberra, Newcastle, Gold Coast, Rockhampton and Darwin using only five aircraft. It was believed that their business model was too low cost to enable a route to Sydney when they were unable to arrange a deal with the Airport there despite exhaustive negotiations.

However, Tiger have already indicated that they will consider opening up their cheap flights to major centres such as Brisbane and Sydney at some point in the future.

Jetstar have responded to the recent Tiger airways launch by beating their $9.95 Adelaide to Melbourne cheap flights by 95 cents. However, it is not expected that the price war will continue for long as flight prices have already returned to normal on those routes despite reassurances from Mr Davis who insists that his company can make money while maintaining those prices.
